Take This One Challenge to Find Out.

I recently attended the IT Nation Secure 2025 conference, and I’m still glowing from all the incredible energy. This event was such a rewarding opportunity to connect with brilliant leaders in our industry, dig into the latest cybersecurity and MSP trends, and share some of my own passion and expertise for leadership, communication, and presence.

Beyond the breakout sessions and hallway conversations, I want to talk about something that often goes unnoticed—but speaks louder than almost anything else in the room: our appearance.

Each outfit I packed for this trip was chosen with care. Every piece reflected who I am and what my Shorr Success brand stands for. I wasn’t just getting dressed—I was showing up with intention. And the impact was noticeable.

Here’s a simple challenge I’d love for you to take:

Ask one colleague for one piece of honest feedback about your presence.
What do they notice about you when you walk into a room or turn on your camera for a meeting? What message are you sending—before you even speak?

I know this can feel a little vulnerable. But this one question can offer powerful insights into how others perceive you. And that awareness? It’s a game-changer for your personal brand.

During the conference, I had the privilege of leading a breakout session titled “Why IT Professionals Struggle With Difficult Conversations—And 6 Steps to Fix It.” And yes, I dressed for that moment, too. I asked myself: “What image do I want to portray from the stage?” I knew my content would be strong, but I wanted my presence to reinforce my credibility, professionalism, and warmth. Because in our world, people don’t just hear your message, they feel it. I even helped Eric, my husband and business partner, pick out his sport coat and slacks to make sure his presence aligned with the image of confidence, polish, and professionalism we both want to project.

How we look, how we carry ourselves, becomes part of that message.

So let me ask you: What does your appearance say about you?

Are your clients seeing the polished, confident expert you are, or are there mixed signals? Does your wardrobe reflect the high-value services you provide, or does it unintentionally undersell your expertise?

These questions aren’t about vanity, they’re about alignment. Is how you’re showing up supporting the brand you’ve worked so hard to build?

Here’s a pro tip I live by: Before you walk out the door or join a virtual call, pause and ask yourself, “Who am I meeting with today? What do I want them to feel about me and my business?” Your outfit doesn’t have to be fancy—but it should feel intentional. Does your look align with your message and brand, or does it create confusion?

I believe strongly in showing up with purpose, not just in what we say, but in how we appear. That’s what builds trust. That’s what creates connection. And that’s what makes your brand unforgettable.

So take the challenge this week. One person. One honest question. Open the door to new awareness, and let that feedback shape how you show up tomorrow, next week, and every day after.

And if this message speaks to you, if you’re starting to realize your presence might need a little polishing, I’d love to help.
