5 Ideas to Network Virtually During a Pandemic

August 7, 2020 By Lisa Shorr Leave a Comment

How are you Virtual Networking ?I truly hope this latest message finds you and your family well.  I don’t know about you, but I feel like I am still in a surreal state of mind.  My family and I are taking many precautions to stay vigilant and safe.  We instill these same protocols for my IT business too.

While the virus is looming, I am doing all I can to ensure both of my businesses are booming!  I asked myself, how will I still be able to connect with my clients and prospects now that we are all homebound?

My favorite and most effective form of networking was in-person, public speaking at in-person events.  I love connecting with my target audience and delivering content on enhancing personal and corporate brands, that can be implemented right away. Thanks to Covid, I had to pivot and find my “new networking normal.”  The answer:  hit the virtual airwaves! [Read more…] about 5 Ideas to Network Virtually During a Pandemic

FIVE BRANDING STRATEGIES WHEN TECHNOLOGY SKILLS ARE NOT ENOUGH

Talking Corporate Branding Strategies to 400 IT Business Owners

A couple of days ago, my high school daughter was given the task to write a short essay on whether technology connects us or disconnects us.  With marketing running through my veins for over 25 years, my curiosity was instantly piqued.  I looked at her sweet face and asked, “What do you think?”  Her answer was honest and predictable, “It connects us, because I can talk to my family in other states and talk to you whenever I need you.”  “True,” I said. Probing further I asked, “Do you think technology disconnects us?”  “Well, it can.  We are not sitting down and playing board games that often and sometimes we choose to text rather than talk and look at each other.”  “Yes!” I thought, my heart skipping a beat.  Just like that it sank, when she closed our conversation with “but it connects us more than disconnects us.”  And with that, she snapped a selfie and “Snapchatted” it to a friend.  End of our face-to-face discussion.  Sigh.

Three Techniques to Owning & Sharing Your Story

Let me help you go from blank page to one filled with your success stories!
Let me help you go from blank page to one filled with your success stories!

Why is it so hard for so many of us to share our own success stories?  This question continues to tug at me each day as I build Shorr Success.

I recently had the honor of being a “Speed Mentor” (like Speed Dating only the participants are a professional mentee and expert mentor seeking a business not a love connection!) at the Center for Women and Enterprise, Women Business Leaders Conference.  The conference was brimming with brilliant women specializing in so many professional directions!

As a second year Speed Mentor, my anticipation was piqued wondering what marketing or branding questions were coming my way? The first woman sat down.  Then the next and the next.  Each woman shared their story in words, brochures and web pages.  Each story touted the many fantastic benefits of their product line or business concept; nutritional analysis, expert engineers, team development, top-of-the-line technology offerings.   As each woman sat down, I listened in awe to their innovative ideas and plans for implementation.  To my delight, many of those ideas are already in motion and profitable.

A consistent answer continued to arise whenever I asked the question, “can you share some success stories your business has achieved?”  [Read more…] about Three Techniques to Owning & Sharing Your Story

Wow!  This past week in Rhode Island has been “cooler” than normal!   Although the whipping wind has certainly put a bit of a chill in the air, I am referring to Rhode Islander’s reaction to our state’s newly proposed logo and slogan: Rhode Island:  Cooler & Warmer. Five Professional Image Tips Thanks to Marco Rubio’s Boots!

What message do these boots send? Source: @MikieBarb / Michael Barbaro

What would the media say about your professional image?

The run for Presidential office has taken a turn. A shift from the pressing issues of the economy and global warming to the significance of Republican Senator Marco Rubio’s shiny black boots! Of course, this focus on fashion is a direct attempt at fellow Republican opponents to sway public opinion to believe Rubio is a weaker candidate for wearing more effeminate, fancy shoes.
