Before your next pitch or team meeting, try this Success Exercise. What do you hear? Your voice may be costing you trust, clients, and influence.
That experience became the heartbeat of Chapter 8 in Your B.R.A.N.D. Unleashed, where I introduce the concept of Dynamic Dialogue. It’s the idea that your voice is more than sound—it’s a tool for connection, leadership, and transformation.
Whether you’re a business owner, lawyer, actor, or coach, your voice is your most powerful branding tool. It’s not just what you say—it’s how you say it. Your tone, your pace, your volume, your pauses—they all tell a story. They reveal your confidence, your empathy, your authenticity.
And here’s the truth: the way you speak directly impacts how others feel. But even more importantly, the way you hear yourself impacts how you sound. If you feel sad, angry, or unsure, your voice will carry that emotion. And your audience will feel it.
So let’s talk about confidence—the emotional anchor of Dynamic Dialogue.
Roger recently shared on a coaching call (I’m paraphrasing!), “When your voice projects the sound of confidence, it has a deeper edge to it. The higher our vocal range, could mean too much air, which not only dries out your vocal chords faster, but also makes you sound softer and could be perceived as less confident.” That stuck with me. Confidence isn’t just a feeling—it’s a sound. It’s the foundation on which you can layer any other emotion. When you speak with confidence, you invite your audience to trust you, to lean in, and to believe in what’s possible.
Success Exercise: Hear Yourself First
Here’s a simple exercise I use with my clients—and I invite you to try it right now.
Record yourself speaking. It could be a short introduction, a pitch, or even a few sentences about your business. Then, listen back. I know this is an awkward exercise, yet it is so powerful in creating awareness and making lasting change.
Ask yourself:
- Do I sound confident or quiet?
- Is my voice strong and clear, or soft and hesitant?
- Am I using inflection to emphasize key points?
- Does my tone reflect the emotion I want to convey?
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about awareness. Because once you hear yourself, you can begin to shape your voice intentionally. You can add that “edge.” You can slow down, breathe, and speak with purpose.
In today’s world, where AI and chatbots are everywhere, your human voice is more valuable than ever. Technology can mimic tone, but it can’t replicate your authenticity. Your voice is irreplaceable. It’s your superpower.
So the next time you prepare to speak—whether on stage, in a meeting, or on video—ask yourself: What do I want my audience to feel? Then use your voice to take them there.
What did you hear? Time to work together?
You absolutely have a message worth sharing. Now it’s time to deliver it with confidence.
